About
KC Denmark’s Micro Plastic Particle Pump (model 23.580) was originally developed under the EU CleanSea project for measuring plastic particles in marine and freshwater environments with high precision. The pump enables real-time monitoring of pumped water volume via an integrated magnetic/inductive flow meter with an accuracy of approximately 0.035%. It can operate continuously or be programmed for a specific water volume. During one deployment, the sampler can operate with up to four different mesh sizes simultaneously. The system supports a flexible range of filter sizes from 1000 µm down to 100 µm, with smaller sizes (as low as 20 µm) available on request. Filter plates can easily be removed to allow unrestricted pumping. Unlike traditional Manta trawls, the pump’s onboard computer allows programming of exact sampling volumes, providing highly reproducible data. Flow measurement occurs downstream of the filter, preventing error from filter clogging and ensuring accurate data collection.
